15 Hampden Grove, Beeston, NG9 1FG.
|
We bought this semi-detached Edwardian property, it had almost no insulation and only gas fireplace on the ground floor, no central heating, and single glass windows. We have since insulated throughout, including loft, walls and windows.
See below for more information, with the least expensive first and the number of £s giving a rough indication of cost. [Information provided May 2026.] |

8. UNDERFLOOR INSULATION AND UNDERFLOOR HEATING ££££
Although we wanted to retain the original floorboards they were very draughty and impossible to insulate. We therefore took the decision to rip them out, insulate and replace with water-based underfloor heating. Each room and floor has individual time/temperature controls. |
BENEFITS
The house maintains a set temperature for considerable time, even when the heating has been turned off. It is still expensive to heat the house – but it is much more comfortable to live in.

LESSONS LEARNED
There are still a few draughts that we would like to get rid of – but this is difficult while retaining the original features.
