Greening Beeston is an informal group of energy conscious local people running environmental campaigns in Beeston to help fight the Climate Crisis of Global Warming. We want to encourage residents of Beeston to understand more about the Climate Crisis and to make changes to help tackle it by reducing the amount of Energy and Water that we all use. These changes will help save energy and therefore reduce emissions of Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere. At the same time as helping the Environment we can reduce running costs.
Greening Beeston’s campaign to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions was launched in Beeston Rylands in October 2010 and we strive to raise awareness through features in the local press and via targeted poster campaigns. The EcoTrail-NG9 has taken some years to be implemented. It began as an idea to show people houses in Beeston which had been constructed or retrofitted with energy saving measures. Then In 2022 Beeston & District Civic Society held a hugely successful community event titled “Our Beeston Our Future” and several action groups were formed based on the thoughts and ideas of Beestonians. One of these was the Energy & Sustainability Group which included members who also belong to Greening Beeston.
This was the opportunity to turn Greening Beeston’s vision into reality, namely a self-guided walking trail in the NG9 area - a trail supported by a website showing properties which had undergone changes aimed at saving energy and reducing running costs. We feel it is most important that visitors can read in the owners' own words about their experiences during the modifications to their homes – warts and all – as well as reading about the benefits of energy saving and reduced running costs.
It’s taken us a while, but we believe that EcoTrail-NG9 is an innovative approach to encouraging energy saving; from simple actions such as fitting Thermostatic Valves to more expensive projects such as installing Photovoltaic Solar Panels and Heat Exchangers. We hope that seeing these energy saving installations will inspire you to make changes to your own home.
